What Is Salmonberry Village Assets?

Salmonberry Village Assets is a community-rooted housing initiative focused on research, feasibility, and pathway-building—not rushed construction.

The goal is to develop scaleable, culturally grounded models that support Indigenous and BIPOC families in accessing safe, affordable housing in or near their homelands.

Nothing about community without community.

The pathway begins with listening. Community experience and priorities help shape the research, feasibility work, partnerships, and models that come next.

“The goal is not simply to build one housing project. It is to create a pathway for communities to remain connected to home.”

HOW THE WORK HAPPENS

Listen.

Understand.

Connect.

Build.

01 Listen

Community needs assessment grounded in lived experience and community priorities.

02 Understand

Land and feasibility pathways that identify what is possible and what barriers remain.

03 Connect

Partnership and infrastructure mapping across the systems needed to make housing possible.

04 Build

A pilot housing pathway model designed around culture, care, belonging, and long-term community wellbeing.

We are building toward a housing pathway shaped by the whole ecosystem of home. Salmonberry Village Assets is exploring models that could bring together attainable housing, land access, home ownership pathways, resilience infrastructure, shared community space, conservation, and long term connection to place.

The final model will be shaped by community priorities, feasibility, land, financing, and partnerships rather than predetermined before the community has had a voice.

The Model

Rather than starting with buildings, we start with systems.

Rooted in H.E.R. Power Initiative

Rooted in H.E.R. Power (Housing, Equity & Resilience)  is a community stakeholder, research, and place-based initiative bringing people together to better understand the systems shaping housing, land, belonging, and opportunity.

Like a berry patch, community challenges rarely grow alone. Housing connects to land, wages, policy, infrastructure, culture, displacement, and access to resources. Rooted in H.E.R. Power helps communities identify those connections, organize around what matters, and build solutions that are rooted in place and designed to grow, adapt, and scale across communities.
